On Wednesday of each week, there is the popular Pannier Market, when locals come to town to exchange news and views, mingling with visitors in the busy Market Square, this is the real hub of rural life in this little market town.
There is also a Women's Institute Market on Wednesdays. After visiting the market or one of the variety of small shops that cluster round the square, be sure to take refreshment at one of the Inns, Cafes or Tea Rooms that are nearby.
As you would expect in an area like this, there is excellent farm based accommodation and, at Clawton just south of Holsworthy, there is to be found Court Barn, a small, quality country house hotel. If you stay in the Holsworthy area, you can enjoy the best of both worlds, the peace of the countryside and yet be within about one hour's drive of the major attractions of Devon and Cornwall.
Just off the Market Square, situated in the Manor Car Park, is Holsworthy Museum. This is a real little gem of a museum, featuring displays about an era of bygone rural life. The museum is run with great enthusiasm by a band of most welcoming and dedicated volunteers.
Holsworthy has an informative web site of it's own, which includes an excellent map of the shops and information on the history of the area and local events.
